TOLEDO, Ohio, Aug. 9, 2025 – Approximately 84 members of the IAM Union (International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers) Local 1297 (District 54) at Libbey Glass in Toledo voted overwhelmingly Saturday to reject the company’s contract offer and go on strike beginning on Friday, Aug. 22 at 11:59 p.m. ET.
IAM Union members cite unfair pay, mandatory overtime provisions that restrict time with family, and rising health insurance costs as reasons for rejecting the company’s offer.
“Libbey Glass management is failing to remember the significant sacrifices our members accepted to bring the company out of bankruptcy and liquidation in 2019,” said IAM District 54 President and Directing Business Representative T. Dean Wright, Jr. “We stand 100% behind our IAM Local 1297 members as they stand strong against corporate greed and in defense of their families and communities.”
“The entire IAM Union stands shoulder to shoulder with our Local 1297 membership at Libbey Glass,” said IAM Eastern Territory General Vice President David Sullivan. “We will use every resource necessary to obtain a contract worthy of our membership’s sacrifices for this company.”
The IAM Union (International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers) is one of North America’s largest and most diverse industrial trade unions, representing approximately 600,000 active and retired members in the aerospace, defense, airlines, railroad, transit, healthcare, automotive, and other industries across the United States and Canada.
