Nearly 1,000 IAM Union District 751 members and their guests packed the ballroom of the Westin Hotel in downtown Seattle for the District’s biennial Machinists Non-Partisan Political League (MNPL) Dinner. The event celebrated District 751’s continued leadership as the top-performing contributor to the IAM’s political action committee.
IAM Union General Secretary-Treasurer Dora Cervantes joined IAM Union District 751 President and Directing Business Representative Jon Holden, IAM Union District 751 Secretary-Treasurer Richard Jackson, IAM Union MNPL Director Hasan Solomon, and others for an evening to help recognize members’ ongoing commitment to advancing working families through political action.
“Every contract we negotiate and every right we defend is shaped by the decisions made in the political arena,” said Holden. “Our strength at the bargaining table is directly tied to our strength at the ballot box. The MNPL ensures our members’ voices are heard, not just in the workplace, but in every level of government.”
IAM Union District 751 continues to set the benchmark for MNPL fundraising efforts across the IAM, a testament to the strength and solidarity of its membership.
“District 751 continues to demonstrate what it means to lead by example,” said Cervantes. “Their commitment to political action ensures that working people have a strong and united voice in shaping the policies that impact their livelihoods. The success of this event reflects the solidarity, passion, and purpose that define our union.”
“District 751’s engagement in political action strengthens the entire IAM family,” said Martinez. “District 751 has long been a powerhouse for our union in the halls of power. Their continued success with MNPL shows what happens when members stay informed, engaged, and united. The political strength of District 751 helps lift every IAM member across the Western Territory and beyond.”
“I commend President Holden and District 751 for continuing to set the standard for all IAM Union Districts with their very successful MNPL fundraising program,” said Solomon. “Our vote is our voice and our PAC is our power! Thank you to all the members of District 751 for all they do to make MNPL one of the largest PACs in the labor movement.”
“Our political weight opens many doors for IAM District 751 and its members,” reads a statement from the Aero Mechanic newspaper. “From directly supporting political candidates who are labor leaders, championing campaign issues that matter to workers, and lobbying efforts to ensure the voices of workers are amplified are a few reasons why the MNPL exists. Regarding politics, the Machinists have boots on the ground and a seat at the table, which means we are heard when it matters most.”
As the evening concluded, IAM Union District 751 members left the dinner with a stronger commitment to supporting candidates and policies that keep District 751 on the frontlines of advocacy and help advance the interests of working families.
