IAM District 98 Achieves Strong First Contract for Simulator Technicians at Harrisburg Airport

IAM District 98 and Local 2058 secured a first collective bargaining agreement for a dedicated group of simulator technicians working at Harrisburg International Airport in Pennsylvania. The technicians are responsible for maintaining flight simulators that play a critical role in training Air Force Special Operations Command pilots.

The group voted in February to join the IAM, citing the strong results achieved in a prior IAM contract for a similar group of simulator specialists. After nearly eight months of negotiations, the new members ratified their first contract, which goes into effect on Sept. 1, 2025.

“This contract delivers exactly what these workers were looking for—real raises, stronger benefits, and job security,” said IAM District 98 Assistant Directing Business Representative Kermit Forbes, who led the effort to organize and negotiate the agreement. “They are very happy to be part of the IAM, and we’re proud to have them.”

The new agreement includes hourly raises of nearly $6, an additional $2 per hour certification pay, and increases to health and welfare benefits under the Service Contract Act.

While the group is small, their addition to IAM Union is significant.

“Four new members may not sound like a lot to some, but to us, every worker matters,” said Forbes. “This is about building power one workplace at a time, and these technicians are now part of a union that will always have their back.”

The IAM represents simulator technicians across the country, helping ensure that these skilled workers are recognized for the vital role they play in training and readiness.

“We are happy to bring the power of a union contract to this new group,” said IAM Eastern Territory General Vice President David Sullivan. “These skilled technicians join others in our union across the country who maintain flight simulator systems and contribute to our nation’s security and defense capabilities.”
