IAM Union Local 914 recently hosted the Gift of Justice Winter Wonderland Black Tie Gala. This elegant evening celebrated the holiday season while honoring champions whose work advances justice, equity, and dignity for all.
The event was thoughtfully organized and planned by the IAM Local 914 Human Rights Committee, whose dedication and vision brought together members and their families, community partners, and leaders for a night of reflection, recognition, and collective commitment to justice.
“I am deeply honored to accept this award,” said IAM Air Transport Territory General Vice President Richie Johnsen. “Protecting the rights of transportation workers is at the heart of the labor movement—and it is a human rights issue we must never stop fighting for.”
Every guest contributed to the spirit of giving by donating a toy, which was collectively distributed to two vital local nonprofit organizations—New Hope Village for Veterans and Parents Engaging Parents. Through this collective generosity, nearly 500 children received a gift, helping to bring joy and hope to their families during the holiday season. Both organizations play a critical role in strengthening our community by providing essential support, resources, and services to veterans, parents, and families in need.
“Solidarity is the foundation of the labor movement, and this recognition reinforces our commitment to fight for dignity, fairness, and justice for all workers,” said IAM Union International President Brian Bryant.
Awards were presented to honor distinguished leaders and advocates whose work powerfully affirms that justice is the greatest gift we can give one another. The Beacon of Solidarity Award was presented to IAM International President Brian Bryant, followed by General Secretary-Treasurer Dora Cervantes, who received the Trailblazer Award. The Guardian of Transportation Workers Award was awarded to IAM Air Transport Territory General Vice President Richie Johnsen. The evening concluded with IAM Human Rights Director Nicole Fears receiving the Champion of Human Rights Award.
“I accept this award on behalf of the union members whose dedication, grit, and unity continue to break barriers and open doors for generations of workers to come,” said Cervantes.
“I am proud to help organize opportunities for our members to gather and give back,” said IAM Local 914 Human Rights Committee Chair Donyea Hoffman. “Our union stands for more than workers’ rights—we stand for strong, thriving communities, and this event lets us put that commitment into action.”
Before the evening concluded, the IAM presented a donation to the IAM Local 914 Human Rights Committee, reaffirming the union’s commitment to collective action and support. In the true spirit of the labor movement, this contribution helps ensure that the committee can continue to advance justice and give back to the community.
