IAM members throughout North America recently participated in the 52nd CBTU International Convention in New Orleans. The convention theme was “Confronting the Radical Dangers to Our Families and Our Future.”

The IAM delegation to the convention included almost 40 members from across the country. They participated in various workshops, meetings, and events and had the opportunity to network with other union members and leaders.
CBTU consists of many IAM members, including IAM National Political and Legislative Director Hasan Solomon, who serves on the CBTU Executive Council.
“Our union’s participation in CBTU cements our commitment to fighting for the rights of all working people, regardless of race, gender, or ethnicity,” said IAM International President Robert Martinez Jr. “This convention addresses the forces that are trying to roll back the hard-won gains for all working families. The IAM is committed to working with CBTU to build a stronger labor movement and fight for the rights of working people to build a better future for our families and communities.”
The Coalition of Black Trade Unionists, founded in 1972, is the largest independent voice of more than 2.2 million African-American workers in labor unions today. With more than 50 chapters in major U.S. cities and one in Ontario, Canada, CBTU is dedicated to addressing the unique concerns of black workers and their communities.
