A delegation of representatives led by IAM Midwest Territory General Vice President Sam Cicinelli, along with Chief of Staff Vinny Addeo, were welcomed by the Local 831 (District 6) Shop Committee for a firsthand look at the facility’s advanced production systems, and the essential role that IAM-represented members play in sustaining the facility’s industry-leading performance.
As the world’s largest cereal mill, the facility produces the iconic Cap’n Crunch brands of cereal along with other products.
“This tour offered an invaluable perspective on the commitment and skill our members bring to their work every day,” said Cicinelli. “Seeing the scale of operations and hearing directly from rank-and-file members strengthens our resolve to continuously advocate for fair wages, safe working conditions, and a seat at the table in shaping the future of labor at Quaker Oats.”
Representatives discussed ongoing issues important to members, including workplace safety protocols, training opportunities, and economic priorities as part of a broader strategy to elevate union presence and voice in major employer facilities.
Members on the ground shared insights about facility challenges and opportunities, reinforcing the importance of union solidarity and proactive leadership engagement as contract cycles and negotiations approach. Also, a close collaboration with other unions in the shop – SMART and BCTGM – add to the IAM’s strength and solidarity.
The visit concluded with a roundtable discussion between IAM leadership and Quaker Oats team members, highlighting a shared commitment to collaboration and mutual respect as union discussions evolve.
