Ilana Boivie Appointed IAM Assistant Strategic Resources Director

IAM International President Brian Bryant has appointed Ilana Boivie, formerly an IAM Senior Research Economist, as the IAM’s Assistant Director of Strategic Resources. The appointment was effective March 1.

Throughout her career on the IAM’s staff, Boivie has conducted labor research and economic analysis regarding contract negotiations, legislative initiatives, and labor policy issues.

“Ilana’s experience at the negotiating table has been invaluable,” said Bryant. “She is one of the nation’s premier experts on the issue of retirement security. Her leadership will continue to make the Strategic Resources Department one of the top resources for our members, officers and staff.”

Boivie joined the Strategic Resources Department in 2017 and served previously as a Research Economist for the Communications Workers of America and Director of Programs for the National Institute on Retirement Security. Ilana has extensive experience in retirement policy, health care issues, and economic matters, conducting original research, speaking at events, and testifying before policymakers. She holds a master’s in economics from New Mexico State University and a bachelor’s in English from Binghamton University, graduating magna cum laude.

Her first job in high school was a cashier at the local grocery store as a member of the United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW), which allowed her to receive a UFCW scholarship that helped her pay for college.

“Ilana’s expertise in labor research and economics makes her a welcome addition to the leadership team of our department,” said IAM Strategic Resources Director David White. “Her leadership will help elevate the Strategic Resources Department to even greater heights, ensuring we remain a top resource for our members, officers and staff.”

The IAM Strategic Resources Department serves as an in-house research and knowledge source for IAM representatives across North America.
