Live Music, Santa and Community Giving to Benefit GDA | TLC in Washington State

An afternoon of live music and community giving will support Guide Dogs of America | Tender Loving Canines (GDA | TLC) on Dec. 13 from 1 to 5:30 p.m. at The Beer Vault & Wine Bar in Gig Harbor, Wash.Hosted by retired IAM Western Territory Grand Lodge Representative Kevin Cummings, the all-ages benefit will feature several local musicians performing 20- to 30-minute sets, a visit from Santa, and an opportunity to meet a working guide dog that supports a young man with autism in the community. All proceeds will benefit GDA | TLC.

The event continues Cummings’s effort to bring people together through music while supporting the IAM’s favorite charity. He has already organized three concerts benefiting GDA | TLC, with community members turning out to enjoy live performances and contribute to its mission.

After retiring in January 2020, Cummings found new ways to serve his community, first delivering meals to homebound seniors during the pandemic and later serving on the board of a local food bank. In 2022, he returned to a lifelong interest in music, beginning to write and perform original songs at age 66.

“To satisfy my need to keep giving back to the community, I put on concerts to benefit charities,” says Cummings. “It has been a blessing to watch the community come out and support these events.”

His performances have since taken him to festivals, farmers’ markets and other community gatherings. Organizing benefit concerts has brought together his love of music and commitment to helping others.

IAM members, retirees, families, and community supporters are encouraged to attend, enjoy the music, and help support GDA/TLC’s work providing service dogs that increase independence and improve lives.
