IAM Union members from across the state of Texas proudly represented the union at the Texas AFL-CIO COPE Convention, united around the convention’s central theme: “Workers vs. Billionaires — Which Side Are You On?”
A major focus of the convention was the strong show of solidarity for IAM District 776 member and activist Taylor Rehmet, who is running for Texas Senate District 9. During the conference, IAM members and delegates took action by calling union voters across the district, helping turn out support for Rehmet ahead of Election Day on Jan. 31.
“This moment is about a clear choice: workers or billionaires,” said IAM Resident General Vice President Jody Bennett, a native Texan and District 776 member. “For too long, billionaires have written the rules while working families pay the price. The labor movement is drawing a line, and in Texas that means supporting leaders like Taylor Rehmet who come from our ranks and fight for working people.”
The convention also featured the first debate between Democratic candidates for U.S. Senate, James Talarico and Jasmine Crockett, centered on the future of working families and the urgent need to stand up to billionaire influence in politics. Delegates voted to take no action in the contested U.S. Senate primary, but made endorsements in many other federal, state and local races featuring union members and pro-worker candidates.
From the convention floor to direct voter outreach, IAM members made their position clear. The choice couldn’t be clearer: workers vs. billionaires — and the IAM Union will always stand with working people.
