Machinists Union Strongly Supports President Biden’s ‘Invent it Here, Make it Here’ Executive Order

WASHINGTON, July 28, 2023 — Robert Martinez Jr., International President of the 600,000-member International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM), released the following statement strongly supporting President Biden’s “Invent it Here, Make it Here” executive order on federal research and development in support of domestic manufacturing:

“President Biden’s ‘Invent in Here, Make it Here’ executive order is a significant step forward in ensuring that the United States remains a leader in innovation and manufacturing. This will help to create the conditions necessary for American workers to continue to invent and innovate. It will also help ensure that American workers make these cutting-edge products in America. This order puts us on a clear path to creating a manufacturing industry for the future that is robust and sustainable.

“As one of the largest and most diverse labor unions in the United States, the IAM knows firsthand the importance of investing in research and development and creating good-paying manufacturing jobs. And we believe that creating these jobs here at home is the best way to revitalize our manufacturing sector, grow the middle class and stabilize our national security.

“We applaud President Biden for his leadership and policies that continue making working families this administration’s top priority. We look forward to working with the Biden administration to implement this order that will help bring jobs back and help grow jobs in America.”

The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) is one of North America’s largest and most diverse industrial trade unions, representing approximately 600,000 active and retired members in the aerospace, defense, airlines, railroad, transit, healthcare, automotive, and other industries.
