October 4 is D-Day for Lethal Trade Accords

Congress is set to vote October 4 on three seriously-flawed free trade agreements (FTAs) with South Korea, Colombia and Panama. Should the pending FTAs negotiated by the Bush administration pass, more than 159,000 middle-class jobs will be shipped overseas.

With our country suffering from persistent high unemployment, we cannot afford more NAFTA-style trade agreements that will take away more American jobs.

Machinists union members are encouraged to act now! The IAM has put together a countdown to the October 4th deadline and a quick overview of the horrendous effects of each FTA. Click here to view it. And then share the link with your co-workers, family and friends.

Encourage them to send a letter to Congress telling them to vote “NO” on the South Korea, Colombia and Panama Free Trade Agreements.

In addition, the AFL-CIO has called for a Day of Action for October 4th in Washington, DC. Labor and community activists from around the country will swarm the capitol to stop passage of the three trade agreements. The IAM encourages as many Machinists as possible to join in lobbying their respective members of Congress. More details to come.
