Short Term and Long Term Disability Coverage for All TCU Members Working at New York MTA Headquarters in IT, Procurement and BSC Departments

Notice to All TCU Members Working at New York MTA Headquarters in IT, Procurement and BSC Departments:

As of April 1st, your CBA covers you for short term and long term disability. This coverage was bargained by TCU ahead of forthcoming contract negotiations. These vital benefits provided by your contract are in addition to benefits and coverage related to covid-19 afforded by the CARES Act, and could not have kicked in at a more important time. There is no added cost for these new benefits. They are part of your overall Benefits package.

Short-Term Disability

In the event of a prolonged serious illness, you may receive full pay for up to 26 weeks (130 working days) from the initial date of absence. Before short-term disability benefits begin, your sick leave balance must be exhausted and all but 10 days of your accumulated vacation/ personal/compensatory time must be used.

Long-Term Disability

In the case of a covered catastrophic illness or injury, this benefit generally provides 60 percent of your monthly base salary past 26 weeks.

Please note, if you were grandfathered into Short Term/Long Term benefits, you were already covered and there is no change to your benefits. If you are an MTA employee working for IT, Procurement or BSC and have questions about your benefits or any questions about your particular circumstances – please contact your Local Chairman.
