TCU/IAM Local Lodge 1908 member Thomas Larmena Jr. of Alexandria VA was awarded a $1000 Union Plus scholarship.
Union Plus awarded $150,000 in scholarships to 130 students representing 43 unions in 2011.
In a release from the Union Plus program about this years recipients, “This year’s scholarship recipients appreciate that their unions provide family-sustaining benefits, a voice in the workplace and a path to achieve the American Dream.”
Thomas Larmena, who works in the TCU/IAM Potomac Manpower Training Center, said, “I absolutely love that I am making a difference in the lives of young people.” Thomas envisions himself as a union labor leader one day, and hopes his education will be seen as “an investment in the future of organized labor.”
TCU President Bob Scardelletti said, “the Union Plus scholarship program is a great source for all union members. I am so proud of brother Larmena’s work for the Manpower Training Program and his dedication to achieving his education goals.”
