Amtrak on Track to Set Annual Ridership Record

March 2011 marked the 17th consecutive month of ridership growth for Amtrak. It was the best March ridership ever for the company and it looks like Amtrak is on track to set another annual ridership record.

"Our ridership has grown more than 36 percent since 2000, and I expect that trend to continue – and if gas prices continue to rise, our only restriction will be the available capacity," Amtrak President and CEO Joe Boardman said.

“Amtrak is already a cornerstone of travel in the northeast. With ridership growing every day, I hope Congress can see the value of a nationwide world class high speed rail system and provide Amtrak a dedicated long-term funding source,” said TCU President Bob Scardelletti.
