American 99ers Plan Sept. 22 Phone Blitz

UCubed and a coalition of individual and group advocates for the “99ers” – folks who have exhausted their unemployment insurance benefits – are combining their efforts to effect real change and provide much-needed relief for the long-term unemployed.

The newly-formed coalition known as The American 99ers Union and its members will take part in a collective effort to pass the Americans Want to Work Act (S. 3706) – a bill to create a fifth tier of unemployment insurance benefits in states with unemployment rates above 7.5 percent.

On Wednesday, September 22, 2010, between the hours of 9 am and 9 pm, members are being asked to email, call and fax their two Senators demanding immediate passage of the bill.

“There are over 2 million 99ers across this country – possibly more,” said UCubed Acting Executive Director Rick Sloan. “Their fight to survive dates further back than the majority of those adversely affected by this Great Recession. Many of them were the first to be let go. They need our help.

“UCubed leaders and job activists are encouraged to spread the word and invite as many friends, relatives and others as they can to participate in this important day of action.”

Beginning at 9 am sharp on Wednesday, September 22, 2010, UCubed will make a link available to email your Senators. For a list of Senate phone and fax numbers, click here.
