November 15, 2006 – More than 100 miners have been killed in four separate accidents across China over the past 8 days, pushing the total number of Chinese mine workers killed this year to 3,726.
China’s coal mining industry is among the deadliest in the world, due in large part to a lack of basic worker safety standards and unreasonable production standards placed on workers.
