Chinese Workers Owed Millions in Back Wages

January 30, 2006 – Millions of migrant workers in China are owed more than $12 million in back wages, leading many to become increasingly frustrated and grow violent.
A recent survey from the National People’s Congress found that 7.8 percent of workers at 2,000 companies survey in China were owed an average of $273 per person in back wages – the equivalent of more than 3 month’s wages for the workers.
