Group Questions China’s Human Rights

May 10, 2006 – Despite Communist China’s new position on the U.N. Human Rights Council, Human Rights in China (HRIC), a U.S.-based rights group, has said they do not expect China to fully promote human rights at home.

“While there has been some improvement in the human rights situation in China, over the past seventeen years, HRIC has documented continued and increasing detentions, arrests, and other forms of persecution for petitioners, political dissidents, religious practitioners and unofficial groups, journalists, lawyers and human rights defenders,” HRIC said in a statement.
