Manufacturers Urge Tough Stance on China

Upset over a soaring trade deficit with China, U.S. manufacturers pressed the Bush administration on Monday to take a hard line with the Chinese on currency and other trade issues.

The manufacturing group met with Commerce Secretary Carlos Gutierrez and U.S. Trade Representative Susan Schwab. Those two officials will join other Bush Cabinet secretaries and Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke for the first round of the Strategic Economic Dialogue on Dec. 14-15 in Beijing.
