    Nearly 20,000 Jobs Lost in January

    February 1, 2008 – The Labor Department reported today payrolls dropped by 17,000 in January, the first drop in jobs since August 2003. Manufacturing and construction continue to be the hardest hit industries by job loss, with 28,000 manufacturing jobs lost and 27,000 construction jobs lost.
