Russell Athletic Moving Jobs to China

February 1, 2006 – Russell Corp. recently announced they will be moving 85 Union jobs at Huffy Sports Co. to China as part of their restructuring efforts. Workers at the Sussex, WI plant produce basketball backboards and sports balls for the athletic apparel and equipment company.
The move was part of Russell Corp.’s overarching plan to eliminate 1,700 U.S. jobs, and 2,300 jobs overall, in the next two years. The company said roughly 1,200 of the U.S. jobs will eventually be replaced by hiring in Honduras and Mexico.
Russell also announced they will be freezing their current “defined benefit” retirement plan and move to a 401(k) employee savings plan.
