Talks to Resume in Minnesota Tanker Strike

Contract negotiations are set to resume for members of District 165, Local 623 who are employed at Polar Tank in Opole, MN. The members voted overwhelmingly last week to strike after the company proposed contract language that would increase outsourcing, compromise seniority provisions and job security.

“The company proposal guaranteed that our members would vote the contract offer down and vote to strike, which they did by an overwhelming margin,” said IAM District 165 Business Representative Colleen Murphy-Cooney. “I am so proud of our members taking a stand for what is right. Our goal is to protect seniority rights and to fight for the wages, benefits and job security that our members deserve.”

According to Murphy-Cooney, a meeting is scheduled for Friday, December 9, 2011 to continue negotiations.

IAM members at Polar Tank work in production, assembly, welding and maintenance at the nation’s largest manufacturer of aluminum, stainless steel and carbon-steel tank trailers.
