| “Snake and Mongoose,” a drag-racing film that was made entirely with union labor, is now playing in 14 cities across the country. |
IAM members looking for a break from today’s sex and violence-soaked movie offerings will enjoy “Snake and Mongoose,” a new independent film produced entirely by union members. The film tells the story of Don “The Snake” Prudhomme and Tom “The Mongoose” McEwen, who reigned over the world of dragster and funny car racing in the late 1960s and 1970s.
The PG-13 film features archival National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) footage and chronicles the development of the sport as well as the close friendship and arch rivalry between Prudhomme and McEwen.
“‘Snake and Mongoose’ takes movie-goers back to the hey-day of American drag racing,” said IAM International President Tom Buffenbarger, who, along with members of the IAM’s Executive Council, previewed the movie while in Los Angeles for the 2013 AFL-CIO Convention. “Everyone involved in the making of the film was a union member, and I highly encourage IAM members to support our union brothers and sisters by seeing this film.”
