FAIRBANKS, Alaska — The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) is thrilled to announce that on Sept. 11, 2024 a distinguished group of 15 F-35 Instructor Pilots and Simulator Technicians unanimously voted to join our union. This landmark decision reflects the trust and confidence these skilled professionals have placed in the IAM to represent their interests and advocate for their rights in the workplace.
“We are incredibly proud that these highly trained and dedicated workers have chosen the IAM to be their bargaining representative,” said IAM Western Territory Grand Lodge Representative Paul Shepherd. “Their unanimous decision speaks volumes about the strength and unity within this group, and we are honored to welcome them into the IAM family.”
IAM District 160 will proudly represent these new members, ensuring that their voices are heard and their contributions are recognized. The F-35 Instructor Pilots and Simulator Technicians play a critical role in the success of one of the world’s most advanced fighter aircraft programs. Their expertise ensures that pilots are well-prepared and that the technology supporting these operations functions flawlessly. By joining the IAM, they are taking a proactive step towards securing a strong voice in their workplace.
IAM Western Territory General Vice President Gary R. Allen emphasized the IAM’s dedication to this sector.
“The F-35 platform is the future for Service Contract,” said Allen. “We are committed to helping people get the pay and benefits they truly deserve and a phenomenal job well done by our organizing team.”
This commitment is a driving force behind the IAM’s support for workers in the defense and aerospace sectors.
IAM District 160 is sincerely thankful for the invaluable assistance provided by Grand Lodge Representatives Paul Shepherd and Brandon Hemming from the IAM Western Territory. Their dedication and support were instrumental in guiding these workers toward this important decision.
“This vote is a powerful reminder that workers across all sectors recognize the value of collective bargaining and the importance of having a strong union in their corner,” said Hemming. “We are excited to begin this journey with our new members and to achieve the best possible outcomes for them and their families.”
