Grow Jobs Connecticut Calls on Governor for Help
February 28, 2006
As the deadline looms for the closing of the New Haven, Connecticut Winchester/ US Repeating Arms facility, Grow Jobs Connecticut is calling on the state’s governor to become more active in support of the plant’s workers.
A report by the group says that Governor M. Jodi Rell has not issued a statement, contacted the city state legislators or the union. This, despite the fact that almost 200 manufacturing jobs are at stake.
Further complicating the issue is the fact that any deal to keep the facility open would require the state’s involvement because of established tax abatements the company has alread received.
