IAM Union Calls for Full Accountability Following the Death of IAM Member/Boeing Employee Daniel Lussier

WICHITA, May 7, 2026 — IAM Union (International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers) Southern Territory General Vice President Craig Martin issued the following statement regarding the death of IAM member Daniel Lussier following a workplace accident at Boeing’s Wichita, Kan., facility:

“The IAM Union mourns the loss of Brother Daniel Lussier, an 18-year member of our union and a dedicated aircraft mechanic who gave nearly two decades of his working life to this industry. Our hearts go out to his family, his friends, and his coworkers during this incredibly difficult time.

“The results of Brother Lussier’s autopsy confirm that a workplace accident contributed to his death. That demands answers. The IAM Southern Territory is demanding full transparency into the investigation of this incident. We will be pushing to ensure it is conducted with the seriousness that Daniel’s family and our members deserve. We will investigate whether proper safety policies and procedures were in place, whether they were followed, and what corrective actions are required.

“The concerns raised by Brother Lussier’s coworkers cannot be ignored. Reports that workers had fallen through these crossbeams before, and that broader safety deficiencies exist throughout the facility, point to a systemic problem that requires a systemic response. Fixing one hazard while leaving others in place is not a safety plan.

“The safety and well-being of our members is, and will always be, our highest priority. IAM Employee Assistance Program services are available to members at the facility who need support. No worker should ever have to live in fear of whether they will come home at the end of their shift.

“Boeing must be held fully accountable, not only for what happened on April 22, but for the conditions that made it possible. We will have more to say as this investigation moves forward.”

The IAM Union (International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers) is one of North America’s largest and most diverse industrial trade unions, representing approximately 600,000 active and retired members in the aerospace, defense, airlines, shipbuilding, railroad, transit, healthcare, automotive, and other industries across the United States and Canada.
