Solidarity with Minnesota: IAM Union Supports Our Communities

Dear IAM Union Family,

What is unfolding in Minnesota, and across our country, is a serious test of our democracy and our collective commitment to the Constitution. When government authority is used to intimidate communities, suppress dissent, or detain people without due process, the labor movement has a responsibility to speak with clarity and purpose.

The IAM Union stands in solidarity with the people of Minnesota, including union members and working families, who are demanding accountability and an end to actions that violate basic civil and constitutional rights. No worker should fear being targeted for speaking out, protesting peacefully, or simply existing in their community.

The IAM Union is joining the labor movement in taking a deliberate and responsible approach. Our focus is on visible solidarity and collective action, consistent with our collective bargaining agreements, that protect workers, their jobs, and the contracts they have fought hard to secure. Labor is showing up to oppose the unconstitutional detention of innocent Minnesotans and the targeting of people—no matter their immigration status—while ensuring that workers are not placed in further jeopardy.

The IAM Union has always believed that dignity on the job and dignity in our communities are inseparable. Working people build this country, sustain its economy, and keep it moving every day. When we stand together with discipline and unity, we can demand justice while safeguarding one another.

Here are some ways we can show support:

  1. Share the News: Distribute the Minnesota AFL-CIO statement on your social media and to your local networks.
  2. Solidarity Actions: On Friday, Jan. 23, we encourage members to wear blue and post photos using #MNAFLCIO. Other ways to show support include placing candles in windows, holding faith vigils or writing to Minnesota-based corporations.
  3. Contact Congress: Take action here to demand Congress hold ICE accountable to the law.

In solidarity,

Brian Bryant
IAM Union International President
