After a battle in Federal Court and some intense negotiations, IAM Anchorage Airport Fuelers scored a big victory for themselves and their families. IAM Members at ASIG/Menzies Aviation voted overwhelmingly to accept a newly bargained contract. The three-year agreement includes wage increases of 3.5 percent each year and the health care coverage and sick leave policies remain in place. The contract also includes improved bereavement leave, increased flexibility of vacation time, and reduction of the hire in wage progression from 120 months to 96 months.
“This is the best contract we’ve seen in years, but the real win is our right to represent the members under the National Labor Relations Act (NLRA), said Glenn Farmer, Business Representative, IAM District 160. “IAM’s mission is to create a better life for families, obtain better wages, and provide workplace protection. Good wages and benefits help create job retention and better skilled and experienced workers. This contract benefits the IAM Fuelers, Anchorage community, company, and the customer.”
Since 1982, the success of Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport has depended on the hard work of IAM fuelers, plant operators and mechanics who service commercial and cargo flights coming in and out of Anchorage.
