U.S. Trade Deficit Increases in May

July 12, 2006 – Spurred by a $17.7 billion deficit with China, the U.S. trade deficit rose .8 percent to $63.8 billion in May.

The U.S. May trade deficit was the sixth largest on record and puts the U.S. on pace to run up a record $763 billion trade deficit for the year, 6.5 percent higher than last year’s record $716.7 billion deficit.
