On January 1st 2011 TCU International Vice Presidents Joseph Condo and John Lydon will retire.
Joe Condo was first elected an International Vice President in 1991 and was re-elected by acclamation at each successive Convention. He started out with TCU’s Manpower Training Department in 1971, joining Lodge 56 and served as a District Chairman in the Allied Services Division. Joe was elected ASD General Secretary-Treasurer, also serving as District 1960 Chairman. In 1983 he became President of the Allied Services Division. First elected a Grand Lodge Trustee in 1981, Joe was re-elected to that post at the 1983 and 1987 Conventions.
John F. Lydon was elected an International Vice President by the Executive Council in March 2007. He was General Chairman of Union Pacific System Board 106 and served as a member of TCU’s Board of Trustees at the time of his election. He first hired on with the Union Pacific at Omaha, Nebraska, in 1971, joining Lodge 335. In 1984 he moved to Lodge 763 due to a job transfer. He was elected Local Chairman of that lodge in 1986 and subsequently re-elected until 2000 when he was voted General Chairman. He was first elected to TCU’s Board of Trustees in 2003.
“Joe and John have served this union tirelessly and without fail. I am so proud to have worked alongside each of them. They have given everything to make TCU strong and proud. I wish them well in their every endeavor,” said TCU President Bob Scardelletti.
Filling the vacancies as Vice President will be Thomas Truhler and Arthur Maratea. “Tom and Artie are dedicated to help the membership of TCU. They will continue our tradition of strength and unity. I am proud to have each one as Vice-President,” said Scardelletti.
Thomas Truhler: started his railroad career in 1970 in St Paul, Minnesota in the General Office Building of the Burlington Northern Railroad. He became Lodge 593 Local Chairman in 1989, and was re-elected to four terms. In 1999 he was elected as a Vice General Chairman of System Board 46 and became Senior Vice General Chairman in 2005. In 2008 Tom was appointed as International Representative of Unit 46. Starting Jan 1, 2011 he will become TCU International Vice President as elected by the TCU Executive Council.
Arthur Maratea: was elected as General Chairman of Unit 167 in November of 2003. Prior to this, he held the position of General Secretary & Treasurer between the years 2002 and 2003. He began his career as a Carman at the Long Island Railroad in 1988 and was promoted to a Telegraphers Position in 1989. He then joined Local 1444 and was elected President of this union in 1991. In 1994, he was elected as Local Chairman and remained in that position until 2002. He was elected by the TCU Executive Council as International Vice President and will assume the post effective Jan 1, 2011.
